It was a physicist at the University of California, Berkeley, called Hugh Bradner, who invented the wetsuit. He realized that a thin layer of water held next to the body could help to keep it warm. This was in the 1950s and since then his idea has spread to all corners of the planet. If you are a shortie lover or a total cover-up kind of person, you will be thankful that Mr Bradner had this flash of inspiration.
